Vet advised use of ventapulmin which i did. Snot came out like a waterfall. Snot has gone now, cleared up. He does however still have a cough, its not even a week since i started the ventapulmin.

Problem is i put him on the lunge last night to see how bad he coughed, no problems with breathing just a cough BUT he is FULL of himself!!

Never seen him like that before!! Running round flying changes hopping in canter shying at things that werent there, after about 5 mins he calmed down but it is clear he needs some exercise. He is turned out 24/7 too!!

He is only been fed happy hoof (a handfull) and his balancer so not being overfed.

What do people think with regards to exercising him with a cough? Its not real bad, think he coughed about 5 times on lunge and most of that was in the first 5 mins (were out 15). I think he was so excited to be doing something again!!

Im taking him off the ventapulmin tonight as its almost run out (what i had left) and planned to put him on naff easy breathe liquid for a while

My plan is see what he is like by monday - vet coming out already for some jabs.

What are your guys opinions and thoughts?

Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't excercise whilst he has a cough - although I do know that some vets advocate quite walking excercise.

Just spoke to the vets and they said quiet walking exercise!

Supposed to be at dressage on sun - think thats out of the window!! Never mind rather have a healthy boy!!

Thanks!

I would only do gentle exercise with him while the cough still bad personally.

Also, I have known a couple of horses that have been very full of temselves when on a course of ventpulmin who've gone back to normal once the course was finished. Think it is known to cause that type of reaction in some horses.

Oh good, he wasnt dangerous or anything just looked well in himself, seemed positively excited to be doing something! It was quite nice to see. But then the awful feeling comes when he coughs, makes me feel like a bad mummy!!

Im taking him out for a gentle half an hour hack tonight so we will see how we get on.

Vet said if hes no better they will see him on Monday.
