Well, This is Red's final eye update. Most of you know she injured it Christmas Eve, swollen shut, yada yada yada. ok back story is over.
I got the vet out this morning for their west nile shots and of course Red's eye exam. Red took the shot like a pro, she didnt even so much as twitch a hair. Poco though tried the "omg your gonna stick me!!!" tense up drill, which if your like me and works with her alot, know its something she does to see if she can freak out over it. If you tell her to stop and behave well she stops and behaves and take it like a pro without twitching so much as a hair, if you act like a big deal, well she will make it a big deal. So in the end she behaved and took it like a pro.
Next came Red's eye exam. Insert ominous music
Red hated it when I administered the terramycin, I was literally tying her so short to the post she couldn't move her head to get the terramycin in. Now she lets me mess around her eye like normal, yada yada yada. My vet? Of course not, "Evil vet with shiny light of DOOOOOOOM"
My vet was twitching her (ear twitch Red, does NOT lip twitch) I was twitching her, and in the end you wanna know what calmed her down? Lip scratches.... Yes, that's right, lip scratches, taking your nails and wiggling them on her upper lip. Well with Red's lip scratches keeping her calm my vet was able to exam her eye.
Ther verdict? Scaring on the cornea but no abrasions going deeper into the eye. It looks really good and the spot where it is, is about as good as you can get. She has her vision, it may be a little cloudy in the scaring area but it would be minimal and not enough to affect her. She reacts really well to light and her pupil dilates fully. She said over time the scaring will fade but not to be surprised if there is some scaring for the rest of her life, which Im happy with, yea it would be better if it went away 100% but she has pretty much all her vision, her eye is healthy, and its pretty much just cosmetic.
So with that the vet has cleared her to begin work again under saddle!
And of course Eye pictures!
