Reducing scarring from kick

A nasty horse has gone and kicked my chap pretty badly just below the knee. It's quite deep with a V shaped flap of skin. The vet couldn't get the edges of the cut to meet so wasn't able to stable the cut. We are having to resort to presure bandaging. It's going to leave a pretty bad scar but is there anything that I can do to reduce the scarring?
 
My horse got badly cut on her cannon bone last year overnight in the field. The vet could not stitch it but he slapped honey on to a melonin dressing and bandaged it up. We changed the dressing every few days and rebandaged it. This continued for approx 3 months. After a few weeks box rest she was able to go into the field on dryish days with her bandage on. It was quite a horiffic cut at the time but it has healed really really well with very little scarring and I had no proud flesh. My vet would also recommend not using any disinfectants or lotions and potions which you can buy for cuts (sorry I don't want to offend any brands) He says they can make things worse by killing the newly healing tissues.

try using camrosa around it it is made from natural things so it wont do any harm at all it will make the fur grow back quicker and not make the scar as ovious

you could try bio-oil get it from boots or superdrug and helped my horse after a kick but i only used it when it was scaring not on open wounds
 
ive used wonder gel by gold label its great stuff has all nautral stuff in it aloe vera etc have used it on some really nasty cuts and no scars friends now all use it and seems to heal cuts really quick.

i also use homeopathy silicea 30c 1 dose for 10 days it reduces scar tissue from the inside its great stuff, have been using it with my mare who has just had an operation on her suspensorys and arnica to reduce inflamation. you can get it from boots!
 
theres a few things that i have found/heard work well. Has your vet given you fuciderm to reduce proud flesh(sp)? preventing/dealing with proud flesh quickly will help reduce scarring.

Manuka honey is supposed to be good and i am a fan of aloe vera too. as new skin has grown over i put a thin layer of cornucrescine on every day or two to promote hair growth- most people on the yard have had success with this and new hairs have grown back on an old scar my mare's had since i got her (5years ago!). Seaweed helps hair growth BUT has toxic levels of iodine so i'm a bit put off by research ive done on it recently.

camrosa is supposed to be good but ivee heard of horses taking bad reactions and read on another forum (by a person who ended up using the honey after being put off the camrosa) that they wont actually tell you whats in it because there was something nasty lurking - not sure if theyve been forced to tell/take that ingredient out as this was a year ago now but it was enough for me not to use it.
