Does any body know the rate of which red worm grows in our 4 legged friends.

To put in to perspective our yard owner did a worm count 2 weeks ago and I did another one which came back 2 weeks later and it had gone from 100 epg to just over 250 epg in just under 2 weeks

I'm concerened as I don't trust my yard owner as she said that she wud do the worm counts this time round but I am unsure as to when she did them as she won't go In my horses stable as she is a tiny bit grumpy :) and I can tell u all now there is no way she is gonna follow her around the field until she poos.
Another horse owner at our yard has done the same thing as me and hers came back over 250 more than the YO result??? In the same time span as me.

So really I just want to know if any one knows how fast they grow and if that sounds normal?
My poor mare has been very skinny over winter and I'm concerned That worms might be the cause

Ob wormer treatment is being taken

Thanks
Natalie

Worm counts aren't 100% reliable. It could just be that the piece of droppings that your YO picked up didn't contain as many as the one you did. Eggs are not found evenly throughout droppings.

I expect if you test again you may get a different answer again. The only way I am told to get a reliable count is to put any entire dropping in a food processor to mix it through evenly and then send a sample of that! Nice!

Ok thank you for that I just thought the difference was very high.
I will be sure to not sure the food processor again for my dinner :)

it does seem a big difference, but I think egg counts can go into 1000s, so materially maybe not that high?? What advise did the analysers give you in terms of worming?

Well as she is In the medium range I'm gonna give a 5 day panicure guard. and essentially move :) but I'm just concerned how and where YO took the sample from.
Hmmm :)
