I am trying to buy a horse and went to a local dealer in Coventry which specialise in coloured horses. The web site assures potential buyers that the deposit £300 will be refunded only of the horse fails the vet. The horse I liked failed the vet and that was 11 days ago, and despite texts, phone calls and now a formal demand letter, nothing has been returned. The guy assured me that the money was transferred back a week ago!
I will take it to small claims court and involve trading standards if I have to but it is just so frustrating. Now I haven't got the required funds to keep searching for my dream horse

Ok, so low end dealers don't necessarily feel the need to stick to their own terms and conditions. I would steer clear of any dealer with the word cobs/coloured/Irish in the company name. A quick search on here on the dealer you used will probably give you a whole heap of info that will be enlightening. Sorry you have been duped and I do hope you get your money back!

Drive down there with someone and refuse to leave the yard until they return the money, preferably at the weekend when they are likely to be showing people horses.

Billie1007 I did try to search on here but I didn't find anything too conclusive and assumed (makes an ass of u & me) that if it's published for everyone to see it would be fairly safe. The vet involved said to let her know if I didn't get it back as she would put the word out as far as possible.

As Dabdab said you probably need to go there and make a real nuisance of yourself. How often are you able to turn up over the next seven days?

Good News! After ringing every day & threatening to show up at the yard last Saturday morning unless I had the money back in my account by close of Friday I got my refund. I suspect it's only because the horse was sold to someone else (good luck with that!).

Excellent result! I would recommend you try private or at least sound the dealers out on here first! We're an opinionated bunch, but won't see people scammed if we can help it!
