We have a 2yo colt, he had a retained testicle so had an operation Tuesday. There's a large cut on his abdomen where the retained testicle has been removed as well as a normal castration for the descended testicle.

We bought him home Wednesday, all ok. But this morning we arrived to him not being able to move his front feet. The vet came, she was surprised it was his front feet. He won't even lift them and won't move- not even a step. Back feet will move from side to side quite happily.

We have looked up radial nerve damage as have seen that it can occur after a general, but the vet said there is so little movement, you cantt even pick them up and that's unusual for radial damage. The vet gave bute, anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer.

He is ok in himself, eating, drinking and perky.

Any ideas?

Hi, he is vaccinated for tetanus. The vet asked the same question. Not aware that he had any injections in the front of his chest, I'm thinking not as his shaved area is on his neck.

He has not moved an inch.

The vet came this morning, very slightly better. She thinks either a fracture in the neck or muscle damage.

Any experiences?

Were you there when they castrated him? Did you see what happened when they knocked him out? Just saying because my friend's horse hit the deck badly when he was castrated, with his neck bent at a strange angle and ended up with wobblers which resulted in him being PTS shortly afterwards. Hopefully nothing untoward happened to yours.

Would strike me that a fracture would have shown up immediately, so stiff muscles might be more likely and hopefully minor in the long term?

We were not there for the castration, they did say he kicked around a lot in the recovery process though.

He's just had a drip to relieve the muscles, can't remember what it's called.
