Two or three threads about this, my mare has raised heels on her hind shoes as she was diagnosed with spavin a couple of years ago.she is no longer ridden and I wonder if it would be ok for her to have shoes removed now?
My old mare used to have heels on her hind shoes to try and help her hock spavins but we took them off her after about 6 months as she was still lame, if not more so - if your horse is not in work, I would remove them. If nothing else, standing for the farrier does nothing to help with hock spavins and I bet the shoes cost you an awful lot of money. As it turned out, taking our mares shoes off is one of the best decisions i've ever made, her arthritis and her feet are 100% better without them.
