Regent Hunter Wellies?

Used to have a pair of Hunters but got rid about 10yrs ago because they were absolutely lethal on ice/mud/poo (I was living on my parents dairy farm so the latter was a frequent problem) Unless they have seriously redeveloped the sole or you are only using them in relatively clean areas (hence undermining the very purpose of wellies IMO) I wouldn't recommend them

I don't know if the 'Regent' is a special design, but my opinion is that Hunter wellies are for those who occasionally go out in a bit of mud - not someone who actually has anything to do with horses, as they don't last very long at all. The soles wear down very quickly and the rubber splits easily!

CeeBee - my normal hunters have lasted me 5 years, and thats having 3 horses, and walking 3 dogs everyday! They are only just starting to split on the sole.

However, I do know someone whos only lasted for a week, so that probably balances the average time out!

The cheaper Hunters have very poor soles. OH and I both have Galloways that have lasted for about 5 years so far and show no sign of giving up. They are not made any more but the Balmoral looks similar and are a similar price (£70). They have a much chunkier sole than the standard Hunter and miles more grip. Last time I looked at the Hunter website that sole seems to be standard across the range.

The regents are lined with neoprene which is why i am interested in them as i get v cold feet, I did look at muck boots but need something a bit smarter. My current hunters are the bog standard ones and have lasted about 3years - and they have had some serious abuse - so I'd like another pair, but have heard comments recently that they had gone downhill.

Any suggestions about other wellies? Ideally, dont want to spend over £100

i posted on a thread here a while ago saying i bought hunter wellies roughly in 1994 and they lasted 10 years i have only just bought a new pair with being back in horses.

But back to what i was going to say im sure someone posted on that same thread that they have gone down hill and are not made in scotland any more(dont shoot me down as i have no idea) just as i said someone said. so dont know

I have to say that I would support the view that they have gone downhill. My original pair lasted 22 years; the pair I bought to replace them split after 18 months! I know a few other people who have had problems with later pairs too.
