You know that you sometimes feel like you're not going anywhere as fast as you should be, and you're doing your horse a disservice and with someone else they'd be winning Badders? Then look back at all your old photos and videos, because it's certainly cheered Al up this weekend!

She made this to sum her year up with Reggie. I realised, whilst watching open mouthed at the improvement, that she's been riding him for 2 years and I began to look at what they've achieved...

In 2 years, she's achieved an amazing amount with him and I am stupendously proud of them both. (sorry, proud big sister moment, please let me off!). Here are some photos charting their journey...

And finally XC... He's just the most superb XC horse, willing, bold and clever. He is fine with ditches, corners, skinnies, water... you name it, he's happy to jump it and he's a pleasure to watch. He's always been quite bold (although he had a rather strong aversion to the ditches with the goblins in!) but now he is just a pleasure to watch.

Sorry for the gushing post, but I have watched Al slog away over the past 2 years, and having to have time off due to operations and exams and snow and mystery lameness so I thought she deserved a bit of a well done from me!

On Friday, she'll be collecting Reg's award- the RoR Healthy Heart award, given to the ex-racer the public deemed to be the best allrounder. It'll be 2 years exactly since her first ride on him. She adores him, and he her- he is like a puppy following her about in the field!

I've got my fingers crossed that 2012 will bring the results they deserve. I think the aim is to go out at BE100 and see how he feels before stepping up to Novice mid/late season. She has her B test in a fortnight and of that goes well she wants to start teaching too... Nothing like a full schedule!

Tea and biscuits if you got through all that!!

Wow - its amazing what a dedicated rider paired with the right horse can do! Looks phenomenal!

I had the same sort of thing with my own TB. Bought him as a happy hacker, dipped in and out of the vets for the first year due to abscesses / ligament injuries / teeth problems and I also began to fear him. Now I adore him, he does a fab test and jumps 1m and have just bought a new horse - Jazz having boosted my confidence.

Anyway, fantastic videos and photos! *clapclapclapclap*

He's one of my fav hho horses and the videos of him are ace. It's mega how far they have come. I hope I'll be able to look back on my hooligany exracehorse sj rounds in the same way one day!!!

Rarely can I be bothered to post on progress reports. I can'thelp wanting to say the difference is absoultely amazing. What a super horse now, but to make him so, he needed a half decent rider. He got much more than that. Lovely to see, thanks for sharing and I'm so glad I looked. Brightened my day :)

I am more of a lurker on here and don't often post but I just had to comment on your post. Fantastic! All credit to your sister for doing a fantastic job with Reggie. Good luck to them for next year, they deserve success!:):)

As I said to you on fb the difference is just fantastic and I had forgotten just how different he is. The little clip on there where Al and Reg are doing pairs XC with Drum and I reminded me off how excited and OTT he was in the warm up with Al that day and now he is so much more of a gentleman :) :) Fingers x'd Arch will be like him soon ;)

You cannot beat a good TB, and thats a fact!

I have had two tb's, and other assorted breeds. TB's stand out a mile!

Your sister deserves a medal because it's only because of her that he is such a star. Yes he is very classy and had the raw materials from day one but it is your sisters hard work, love and effort that has enabled him to start reaching his potential.
I wish them every success for next year, they make a fabulous team and they deserve all the prizes coming to them :).
Beautiful horse with a talented rider it's a pleasure to see the results :).

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments. We all love Reggie, and are very grateful to his owner for letting Al ride him. He's as much a family pet as a competition horse! He has Norton Disney BE100 on Saturday, and so I'll do another report then- it looks like an amazing event to finish the year on!

Also, thanks for putting up with my super-gushy post!

This made me smile - thank you for posting. I don't usually post on progress reports, but the difference from the first time she rode him to the most recent dressage pic is truely incredible.

So lovely to see an ex racer having such fun and being so successful.

Well done to both of them. :D

I love reg!! Al has done a fantastic job with him so well done Al if your reading. He looks so diffrent to when she first got him.

Good luck at Norton Disney :D

Wow what a change, he looks very classy!! Lovely post, good luck to your sister for her next event, hopefully they get the results they clearly deserve and have worked very had for. How old is he? Oh and what jump saddle does she have? Im being nosey as I after a jumping saddle and I like the look of hers :p

Fantastic and very inspirational. Well done to your sister for all the hard work she has put in because it's certainly paid off! I too have an ex racer who I am re-training and he has won or been placed every time out so far in prelim. It just makes it so special when you have put all the work in and you start to be rewarded for it. How lovely that your sister has such a good record of her horse's progress in photos and videos. Best of luck to them for the future x

Its a Collegiate, end of line one modelled off Albion K2s I think! Cost £450 as it was discontinued and it's a lovely saddle. Tried him in the Albion and the difference was tiny, and it fits him very well- the saddle saga was a long one, and this was a chance find in the corner of a tack shop!

His dressage start was very much less auspicious than that- for most of 2010 he scored between 45-55%, averaging at about 49%... This year, it's about 64% so an amazing improvement! His flatwork is the biggest change, especially his canter- gone from 3s and 4s to 7s and an 8 or two!

Thank you for reading- I know posts like this are a bit sick-making, but I am a very proud big sister and Al needs a bit of cheering up! She looks so grown up in the photos though, which is always worrying... Means I'm getting old too!

That is a huge improvement! The canter has been the most difficult for my horse, he's great at cantering in a long nose poked fashion but really couldn't get to grips with the idea of actually sitting behind and coming off the shoulder and softening but it has clicked with him in the last couple of months, thank goodness! Your sister sits beautifully, they look a very smart pair!
Now I'd better go off and work mine instead of sitting on the computer!

I'm sure the owners are over the moon - Al has turned him from a 2 a penny ex racehorse worth a few hundred to a classy eventer worth serious money, particularly if he goes Novice.

She's done a great job with him.

RACEHORSES ARE THE BEST congratulations that is the most amazing progress youve done an absolutely amazing job what a cracking little horse well done for persevering hang on to him he looks very special(and if he goes missing he will probably be in my field...!)

I couldn't have put it better myself.
