Hi all.

I have just purchased a filly who turns 2 in May.

Her registered name on her passport is 'Game Over' which I really don't like, for obvious reasons.

Is there any way I can change her registered name? In time I want to compete affiliated dressage and I really don't like the impression that this name gives. It feels so negative. She's a beautiful little filly and I feel she should be blessed with something a little more positive.

She's done nothing so far. Never been shown etc.

Can I do anything or is she doomed to be 'Game Over' for life? Poor lass.

Thanks...

I don't think you can. Would be interested if you can.

My 2yo has the stud as a prefix and then his Final Reminder but I was told I couldn't change it.
However I was also told I didn't have to use it. At local level I could name him whatever I wanted. I could just use his stable name.
I haven't though I've shown him as Final Reminder as I want everything to match.

Such a shame. I think that sometimes more thought should be put in to the name of a baby. Ruby is the last in a line of seven foals from the same mare named 'Game On II' (who was recently PTS), so I can understand the logic. However I feel that the future of this little girl shouldn't be based on that...

I'd rather she was called 'Game Play', 'Game Playing' or even 'Game on III', something more fun and less negative. Or even 'On the Game', that would raise a few eyebrows at BD...!

I just feel that riding a horse called 'Game Over' isn't very nice. Maybe I'm just over-reacting....

I know what you mean but personally I don't think it's that terrible, I've certainly heard worse!

Maybe view it as meaning that it's "Game Over" for the competition?

I do like that perspective, never thought of that...!

:D

This is my first girly and if I had a choice of anything I'd call her 'Miss Behaviour' however I know I have to continue the namesake somehow...

Thank you for your advice :)

OP, look at the link I posted you CAN change names. Actually I thought it cost more like £200 so I was pleasantly surprised.

However, if you will not be competing at an affiliated or higher level, you are able to use whatever you want as a show name.

Thank-you, much appreciated xx

Yes you can we changed our geldings name, this new name is now on the passport but it does say (aka.....) with his old Mae underneath his new name.

ISH board will allow you to change a name and I have done so. My previous horse was registered as Zirconi xxxxx but as he was really from the King of Diamonds line and not a fake I changed it!

My horse's passported name is USA not as in United States of America but as in 'You Sir' or 'oooh sir'. It drove me mental  when I affiliated him BSJA as they always called him 'U.S.A' as in 'you ess ay' the initials of America. Ggrrrr.

Think its £500 to change the name affiliated BSJA and I don't think you are able to do it at all for affiliated dressage but you can call them what the hell you like unaffiliated.

I've named my horse after his Grandad who was Nimmerdor by changing his name to Minnerdor for posh dressage venues! lol

That was exactly my first thought.....Game over..! For the competition..!! Turn it not a positive if you cant change it... X

I was told by the AES that I couldn't change my mares name without the permission of the breeder.

I was told the same - I have the stud name on mine and breeder wouldn't allow me to change it.

I don't mind Game Over.

On the Game made me laugh :) I can imagine them calling your name at a show.

Yeah you can, not sure how, my boy was first registered on his passport with a name that was from his breeding, once he went to a producers they changed it to the name of their farm to promote it.
I prefer his original breeding name tho :(
