Registered show names?

i think (as far as i am aware anyway) its only racehorses that cant have the same names (hence there being some very..err odd names out there) but i know four different horses who are all registered (BSJA, BD and BE) all called Dun n' Dusted :o so i think you can choose what ever you like really :)

When you register your horse with the BSJA you have to give a choice of three names.......usually best to start with the name on the passport ( proper name not stable name) They will tell you if you can have your first choice if not goes to second choice etc. You can't have two with the same in BSJA...... you can get round this by using roman numerals after the name ie If there is already a Neddy you can have Neddy II.

My other Half has just registered her new horse with chaps. She had to put down a choice of a couple of names of which she ended up with her first choice with IV (4) on the end of it as they won't allow a horse with the same name.

My appaloosas had to have a choice of 3 when they were registered and just to be more complicated there was a restriction in the number of letters including spaces.

If I remember correctly, Thoroughbreds are requested to submit six names.Thoroughbreds unregistered before two years old and horses that are from unverified breeding on one side go onto the Non Tb (NTR) register and carry a numeral number after their name eg. Georgehaspots IV.
Finding six names that haven't already been taken if trying to incorporate parents names is really hard, my filly was by Mister Tudor (by Tudor Melody) out of Dream Shared (by Majority Blue). After failing in my first application to find something like Tudor Blue or Shared Melody, the office girls at work drew up six more and we ended up with Blueberry Dreamer IV (I nearly died!) Hey Ho!!

Typically best to go with passport names, esp when they say they are going to check them,
Some societies you have to use passport name.

Costs a bomb to change names from memory!
There is only one Dun n dusted on BD!
