This isn't my foal btw!

There is a foal on my yard, out of the YO's TB mare, by an Andalucian stallion who the YO acquired on loan last year. I strongly suspect this stallion isn't graded as his conformation and movement are poor (I think he would be happier as a gelded every day riding horse personally).

I get the feeling I will be asked by them how to register him as YO is a dairy farmer and is very aware that stock need paperwork. Mine has an SPSS covering cert and an appt with the vet for her jabs and drawings at the end of this month. This stallion doesn't have a covering book, so how would they register him? Choose something like a Weatherbys ID passport and get that application filled in?

I think Weatherbys NTR will have to be the way to go if they want any sort of pedigree details at all -- although SHBGB might also be a possiblity as the mare is TB and they could get the dam resgistered there anyway. However, what they do about ther ebeing no covering certificate someone with a bit more practical experience of registering these sort of foals with either of those organisations would be better equipped to tell you.

I had the same problem when registering the boys this time (the foster foals I took on back in March) Although I know their very good breeding and included it in the application, because their TB sire is not registered as a stallion and their cob mums weren't registered, they have gone down as some of the world's unknowns even though we do know them! This was with SHB who will register virtually anything as long as it will make over 14.2.
Providing sire and dam are registered with their societies and a covering certificate from the sire is sent at the same time, they will accept and acknowledge that but it sounds like they don't have a CC so foal will have to go down as unknown breeding.
Link to the forms you need (registration application form) It will need a vet sketch done, to send in with application and costs £25 for a Basic Identity passport.

** To enter the NTR would cost a lot especially as stallion isn't registered as such; you'd have to have him DNA'd, plus the foal, plus sketches for both and fees; you'd probably be talking of well over £500 at least; would it be worth that? Ring Weatherbys to check further - 01933 440077, they're very helpful - but expensive!

Fab MFH - having something I can easily access and print off for them will mean they find it easier. They are lovely people, but true farmers!!! YO can't turn the computer on, let alone find all this info out.
