Just looking for some advice re freezemarking/microchipping. Firstly, is there any worth in registering a freezemark to both Farmkey and Freezemark, or do they circulate to the same groups?

Secondly, is there any benefit to getting a horse microchipped if already freezemarked? Vet out this weekend anyway so could easily ask about it.

Ta! Hope you're all surviving the weather

Yes if your horse is plain coloured animal, my young mare is a light bay black legs mane and tail,no white markings what so ever, had her microchipped, but because she's by a good trotting stallion well known to the irish travellers, I also had her freezemarked, just incase.:(:(

both mine are micro chipped, I would defo have all horses chipped as my mare is light in colour and unless she is clipped you can't really see her freezemark! she had one as a young horse but when I got her we couldn't work it out even when clipped so I had her redone on the shoulder and it was supposed to be so the hair didn't grow back but it didn't quite work because she moved away!

but I'm thinking about getting the young boy freezed marked too as it will make them less likely to be stolen! I guess if they can see a freeze mark they are less likely to take the horse, where as they don't know if there is or isn't a micro chip!
