Er not sure - I paid £50 to the Sports Pony Studbook, and sent the forms through them.

Which studbook are you thinking of?

Registration of prefixes

The SPSS is a member of the Central Prefix Registry, and all breeders wishing to use a prefix or suffix when registering an animal with the SPSS must apply for approval and registration of that prefix before it can be recognised as their own (even if they have already registered the prefix with a different breed society or studbook). The SPSS will check with the Central Prefix Register on behalf of the breeder that this prefix is acceptable, but in order to avoid disappointment advises all breeders to consult the Central Prefix Register’s own web page http://www.centralprefixregister.com/ before finalising their choice.

The fee for Registering a Prefix is £50. Please contact Head Office (details at top of page) for forms etc.

Just once!

Not sure on those two - must be something on their websites?

I think now mine is registered, I would pay the £20 to register it with a second studbook?

Call them - they are very helpful!!

cost me £60 for SHB GB, and can only be used for our home bred horses. I think you then have to pay for every other studbook/society that you register with. Can work out quite pricey

hannovarian and oldenburg !!

do you have to do it every year or just once ?

Hannoverian (inc BHHS) and Oldneburg do not accept prefix regsitrations. Any that you see with prefixes are unofficial ones added by the owners when they have them registered / overstamped by a UK studbook.

In order to have a prefix registred officially with the CPR you have to apply to the studbook concerned and get it through them. They check with CPR that it is not already taken and then send it in for you plus a % of the fee that is not taken up by their own admin costs. Once registered with the CPR the prefix is yours alone and no-one else can use it and when you want to use it with another CPR member studbook your prefix is extended to them at a snall fee. WBS UK, SHBGB and SPSS are all members as are all the native, M &M, coloured and rare breeds plus some heavies but I am not sure about SSH or TBF and I know the AES is not a member and neither are any of the disciplines, which is a but of a problem when it comes to the ridden / affiliated competition side.

PM me if you want any more info as I am on the council of the CPR.
