Regumate for 'tying up'?

Haven't heard of it but my mare is prone to tying up and I have changed her feeds to high fibre and high oil etc etc, and you need to adjust their exercise programme to include extra good warm up and cooling down periods. You probably do all that already but I just believe it is more a long-term prevention thing than just a quick fix before each event

Regumate as such doesn't prevent tying up, but mares are more prone to tying up then stallions or geldings and sometimes it is associated with coming into season, so if this is the case with your mare it might help.
 
I suppose that they've suggested that incase the it's associated with coming into season but I would be very loathed to do that...it may seem like a quick fix but if it's not hormonal then I don't think it will do anygood at all. What does your vet say about it?
 
We had terrible problems with our horse tying up, couldn't give him anything but pony nuts, which wasn't ideal for a 3 day. The nutritionalist at Baileys horse feeds put us on a feeding programme of stud balancerand something else which I cant remember for the life of me now, and touch wood as long as we dont let him graze any rich grass the problem has been solved. he completed badminton well this year so we must be doing something right. I would recommend a nutritionist, either from BAILEYS, its free! or one of the others
 
my friends horse ties up really badly. She does everything right by him with the specialist diet, exercise programme etc and he wasn't any better.
Shes training to be a vet anyway so had him checked over internally with the camera and he had stage 2 gastric ulcers and its unclear if this is to do with the tying up or not but now he is on the treatment for the ulcers and seems to be....well a bit better for now.
 
We use regumate for the racing mares that are prone to tying up along with a change of diet to Barley and corn, oils and high fibre.

Not to sure but it may be on the swabbable list.
 
It is the list of drugs etc that are not allowed to be in a horses system when competing.

Many drugs have a withholding period prior to competition or slaughter for human consumption.
 
I can't think it can be one of those as numerous eventers use Regumate on their competing mares and no one, to my knowledge, has caught up with that. Presumably it is vet prescribed too so they will have received professional advice on it .
