Should probably be in stable yard but more people come in here!

Am wondering about regumate and/or the mare supplements. I'm tempted to think they are a waste of money but does anyone use them and do they actually work?

We used a 3 week course of regumate on Dolly when she suddenly started rearing and became a bit moody. Vet did an internal to check for ovarian tumours, but that was clear so we went for the regumate. It worked wonders! Completely changed her back to the cuddly way she used to be and we've had no problems since.

That's interesting. I have a very sweet mare that suddenly turns moody for no reason in the middle of a schooling session (but most of the time she's lovely) she's also very *ahem* slutty when in season.

Might give it a whirl then. thanks!

You can only get it from the vets mind and unlikely to give it out easily. My horse had it and although settled her she started bagging up. Made me feel very bad for her. However after one season on it she's not been on it since.

She's now on Agnus Castus - I'd try that first if I were you before upgrading. Its natural (and cheaper!) and used to regulate female cycles. Works really well in a lot of horses but not for all horses.

I had tried Stroppy Mare and various magnesium based calmers on my mare with no effect, so I bit the bullet and bought NAF Oestress at vast expense. I had heard it was a waste of money, but I can say that it made a noticeable difference straight away, and when I ran out things went on the slide again. It has agnus castus in it amongst other things, and although it is strong smelling my mare loves it, but then she will eat anything.

my mare has been on regumate for two summers it worked great for her as she would get severe pain when ovulating and exhibit colic like behaviour, two months ago it stopped working for her and she became extremley hypersenitive and coliced at the drop of a hat almost everyday as if she was ovulating all the time almost couldnt even brush her she could bear to be touched ,got vet and scaned her she has cystic ovaries he is now treating her by short cycling her heats so she will hopefully shed all the folicles that are waiting to be shed , scanned agin yesterday after first treatmeant and some have gone and hypersensitivity stopped so has colic ,but still more to shift so fingers crossed, why do u think your mare would need regumate .

Nono of the 'mare supplements' but regumate works on our mare although Coligone seems to have done the trick

and it's miles cheaper at 1/2 a measure of liquid per day than regumate
