I am considering putting my mare on regumate - although not a total nightmare she can get a clingy with other mares and is obviously uncomfortable behind the saddle when in season. since I am trying to reschool her, it would be much easier if she didn't have 1 week in 3 off! Vet has checked her out and all is fine so next step would be to scan her ovaries. But since these spells come on like clockwork for the first few days of her season, vet has suggested we jsut try the regumate first and skip the scanning. But, given the price of the stuff, I can't afford it if the insurance won't pay. So who has got regumate on insurance? Obviously the claim would jsut be for a year, but if it works well I may consider paying for it or going for a cheaper option like the marble or injections after the claim.

Did you know you can get a pig version of regumate and it is apparently identical at a fraction of the price. Advice given to me by a top eventer by his vet.

You won't get regumate on insurance without a diagnosis. So for Diva we scanned her and saw the imbalance in the ovaries then tried regumate. They paid for one year.

Porcine regumate is only licensed for use in pigs, you are unlikely to get a vet to prescribe it knowing it's for a horse. There are of course, some who do :p

Porcine regimate is given out by vets round my way no probs ur I guess it does depend, the difference incost though is not really that much. Insurance won't pay out for behavioural issues you would need a proper diagnoses like tumours or such like.
