Hi there, thinking about regumate for my mare. Just wondering if people can let me know a few things. If you have used it, can you tell me why you decided to use it and if it worked! Also age/type of horse may be usefull... My mare seems to get obsessed with geldings and during this time is a nightmare and seems to 'zone out'... If you try to control her the worse she gets- screaming at her 'choosen one' and a few other naughties... long story but wont go into it! the rest of the time she is pretty chilled. Just would like a few views and info! Thanks

Regumate works to prevent mares coming into season - and it works well if you give it daily - miss a couple of days and they'll come back in. So if her behaviour in season is a problem - and she's fine when NOT in season - it will work. The other possibility is implanting a marble in the uterus (kids them into thinking they're in foal so they don't come into season.) Cheaper in the long run than Regumate - if it works - it doesn't with all mares and some expel the marble.

I don't use it for behavioural reasons (my mares are broodmares so in foal most of the time anyway). We use it sometimes to delay the foal heat - it works well!

It does NOT have much/any effect if mares are 'marish' ALL the time.

One thing to remember with Regumate - particularly if you are of child bearing age - it is potent stuff and has to be carefully handled!

I used it on one of our ponies, she was about 7 years old, was fine normally, but very mareish when in season, so my vet suggested Regumate.
I gave it daily in her feed, and just had to be careful handling it.

It made life a lot easier, but was expensive.
