I was wondering how others did it.

I was told to syringe it direct into her mouth, but since she wasn't keen on this concept and did the usual "wormer" evasion tactics I was hoping that there would be a better way. I think it is the fact that I am not supposed to get any on me and I usually get covered in wormer and that she wrenched my already dodgy neck and shoulders that is bothering me

I am also worried that If I put it in her feed will she eat it or leave it.

arrg

suggestions on a post card please

Just put it in her feed, that's the norm. My mare is fussy and eats hers.

I've never even heard of syringing it

Silly question but why does she need it at this time of year.
Most mares are going into there anoestrus cycles now for the winter anyway

I agree certainly not all but she will almost certainly be going transitional.
What vets dont highlight is the dangers involved with giving Regumate which include the possibility of mares retaining fluid in the uterus which in turn can become infected and as she is not allowed to come into season it has no escape.
Im sure the overuse of regumate has affected the long term breeding capacity of a number of mares over the years.
I have BTW seen and flushed mares that have had regumate induced infections and it isnt pretty.
Its just that as a breeding person myself i firmly believe that it is overused.
On the odd occasion it is used though it usually goes in the feed.

Sorry i dont mean to come across as harsh it is more out of concern really as have obviously seen these things.
I just worry sometimes that regumate is seen as a fix it all.
Your vet sounds very good

? our mares at our yard must be the exception then as they continue through to about october....

anyways, long and complicated but this is a diagnostic test that the RVC want to before they consider ovary removal. they want to show that her problems are not behavioural.

I am looking forward to having a stress free 2 months

Definately in the feed then and be very careful not to get it on your skin at all the vet would be right in his warning .
They may still come into season into october and November even but these are usually transitional season were often no ovulation takes place the same thing happens in the spring.
The hormone levels will be differant to full oestrus were the mare ovulates.
Mind some will cycle all through the winter but they are the exception not the rule

Thanks....

I am more stressed now having all the investigations done and now with this stuff than I was when she wasn't ..... if that makes an ounce of sense.

Oh well I guess the vets know what they are doing, and I should sit back and not worry about it all

on the upside she wont be in season every 2 weeks so i think I should find a competition or two to go to while I have the chance

My mare has seasons all year round, despite living "north of the Watford Gap". Please be very careful handling Regumate as it will affect girlie hormones in humans if there is skin contact.

I know this is an old post.. but save writing a new one!

Would it be ok to make a few days feed at once (dry) with regumate put on top?

Just trying to reduce the amount of days I’m putting gloves on and measuring it to handle it. Just would be quicker to do 3 feeds at once and have them ready in the bin rather than every day.

I've never used regumate and I don't know the answer. But I saw on FB, that someone was using an oil dispenser for the dosage which made it much easier. Don't know if that helps you?
