Hi - Because of a piece of legislation called The Veterinary casade, when there is a product liciensed for horses the Vets have to dispense that product. Therefore Regumate Porcine can no longer be dispensed to horses. The dose always used to be 1 squirt daily in feed. This is the same legislation which stops Vets dispensing ACP tablets. Red tape........don't you love it!!!!!
Yeah I used it on my mare before- not convinced it stopped her being such a sl*t and napping back to the boys, but then I now think her problem was novice rider + horse taking the p*ss!
But yeah its cheaper and I got it from my pig breeder boss, so it wasn't actually prescribed for her.
Before worrying about whether or not you can get cheaper Regumate, have a read of this article and see whether or not your mare actually needs it... It's one of the most overprescribed drugs in stud medicine.
I tend to agree, and I'm not sure whether it works that well, but then again I don't think that was her problem- but the vet practically forced one bottle on us, when I was quite happy to keep on refusing to ride my mare when she stood on her hind legs every 2 seconds!
There is alot to be said for separating mares and geldings by a field or two!
Hi just a note I have been perscribed regumate porcine for my mare the last 2 months works a treat and have also found a place on internet where you can buy a litre cannister for £107.00 a massive saving of £70 per quarter then buying it from the vet you have to have a perscription for it but that only cost me £7.00 well worth shopping around x
