Rehab yards in Gloucestershire

Does anyone know a reasonable rehabilitation yard in Gloucs??

Don't know about 'reasonable', but my sister took her horse to A.J.Wilson in Ham (Charlton Kings, Cheltenham) for swimming therapy when he picked up a substantial shoulder injury on a draw bolt. They have a purpose built full depth pool there (they are racehorse trainers)

Hartpury has it all, but I don't think it is that cheap. WHat is the problem and which end of Glos are you looking for ?

Thanks.... I just need a week or so on a walker TBH, nothing fancy but my boy is so fresh from box rest its dangerous to walk him, if I could just get the edge off him I can take it from there. Happy to travel to the right place.

Be very careful putting a very fresh horse on a walker - we had a mare a few years ago who had huge problems with her sacro iliac area - we traced her history and discovered she had turned herself upside down in a walker and got herself trapped under the arm - she'd bucked and slipped over.....

I've had better success in the short term with sedating to lead out - either sedalin or tablets - much more control should you need it

I'm sure your vet can advise you as they'll be aware of the pros and cons of the situation :)

My vet has advised, he feels a walker would be the best option knowing my horse, thats why I am asking. We have considered the sedalin option, it doesnt work for all horses unfortunately but is an option.

If it's too fresh to walk out, how are you going to load, transport, unload, and get it on a walker safely?

I know someone who will get it walking out sensibly, with no fuss, who is in Gloucs and will travel. PM me if you want to try her xx

Loading travelling etc are not a problem for my boy, these are all things I've considered, where I am is too dangerous for what he is rehabing from, I either go out onto a main road or down a hill. I can walk him up and down the barn no problem, onto the trailer etc, not an issue

walkers for fresh horses untrained to a walker ARE an accident to happen unless very supervised and even then the nutters will injure themselves. i would advise that you either lunge horse carefuly on a good surface or lead out in hand 3x a day. or swim him to get to the bottom of his energy. what is his injury? how much does he get in his bucket am and pm?

Hey Folks... I asked a simple question, I know my horse, my vet is a top equine specialist and also knows my horse, I'm not interested in your opinions, I dont need teaching how to suck eggs either, just asked if anyone knows a good yard!!!!!!!!!!!:confused::eek:

:eek::eek: OMG!!! He is not a nutter, if I could walk him out 3 times a day I would, and he cannot be lunged!!! of course I have a pool at the bottom of the garden (duh!), oh, and he has nothing in his bucket a.m or p.m.:eek::eek:

I would recommend Hartpury College Therapy Centre for rehabilitation there brilliant :)

All situations are hazardous for horses that have been on box rest and walkers are no worse than leading out in many places where the handler has to be aware of potential hazards as well as what the horse is doing. A quiet lunge for a horse that's been on box rest?!! That is never going to happen. They don't just trot slowly round unless they are completely brain-dead. We give ours sedalin and put them on the walker.

nigsha ... why you even posted? just phone the nearest yard to you and shove him on the walker.no f.. problem. good luck your casual ness is immense! why did you post in the first place if you didnt want people to q your horse, his problem etc. your vet WILL recommend a place for him! good luck and dig deep and you have pi.... me off.

Err why do you need to know what is wrong with the horse ? The OP was just asking for recommendations

if the op has had the vet the vet can recommend loads of places in her area. but she doesnt need to suck eggs, /doesnt want any q's or opinions, and doesnt have a swimming pool in the bottom of her garden! as her vet is a top equine vet he surely has given her a name of a good yard in the area. therefore the whole point of the post is hypothetical. and YES walkers are an accident waiting to happen, esp with fresh box rested horses!
