As some of you will be aware Spider is on box rest at the mo due to an op and have been in now for 7weeks today.

We started walking in-hand a few weeks ago and gradually built that up and she was very well behaved a few spooks and squeals but fine, this then increased to 40mins and the vet said I could get on, so I was doing 10mins in hand in the morning and 30mins under saddle in the evening and she was again very well behaved.

This increased and then the vet came out Friday, we trotted her for the 1st time and she was perfect! Straight into trot, trotted for 5mins and then went for a hack after, I continued that on Sat went for a long hack 1st then went in the school for my 5mins trot, she was quite naughty, squaling and broncing and spinning when I asked for trot, but we got there in the end.

I wanted to repeat the same on the Sunday, so started out on the hack had done 5mins, got near the road and it was very windy, she caught some flapping tape out of her eye and spun bronced and span again and I came off,

I was fine, but was worried about her and she went cantering off, not for too long though and the ground was soft, caught her and got back on for a walk, she was spooky but ok.

So then decided I would do all my work in the school till I could garauntee she wouldn’t mis behave as then she cant go far, she had a few broncs on Monday in trot, yesterday was like a different horse and was PERFECT, today though AWFUL!!

Nearly cam off in the walk about 3 times!! So did the walk for 30mins and put her on the lunge for 5mins trot so I could control her. (vet said this is ok, we was going to lunge her Friday) She did a few HUGE bucks but trotted well and did the full 5mins.

So have decided to just lunge her now for it as she behaves, I can keep hold of her, no one gets hurt and she does the full 5mins trot. And will get back on when she can go out in 3 1/2 weeks hopefully!!

Just want some hugs I spose as am so so annoyed/upset/angry that my lovely well behaved pony is behaving like this,

I can see she isn’t being naughty just excited and full of energy. But just want someone to understand and listen I spose and to have a moan!!

Thanks for listening!!

You poor thing ((((((hugs))))) coming your way.

I've been through this 3 times with James and its just a nightmare - like you we'd have one good day and then the next he would turn into the spawn of satan and try to kill me!

Its no consolation, but your not alone and it won't last forever!!!!

Take care and I hope Spider continues to improve x

I know how you feel too coz Ive been there! When is she allowed to be turned out? I found that as soon as my boy was out in the field, even if it was for just half hour, it made the world of difference when we started riding him!

Also, is she on a calmer? That may take the edge off her for a while?

Thanks every one, it is such a nightmare.

And every time she gets away or bucks I think oh is it going to do damage

Spose the vets expect them to misbehave a bit.

Its just awful, because you couldnt get anything more unflappable then her usually!

She is on a box rest herbel thing. Vet will come out 7th Feb and fingers crossed say she can canter. Then im pretty sure if she is cantering she can go out! Will hopefully canter her for a few days and then put her out. fingers crossed because like yours she will def chill when she can go out

Oh hun
frown.gif
- I thought you took a long time this morning!

Keep your chin up, you know deep down Spider is a good girl and I'm sure this is just a phase. We've all been through it and its horrible when they act completely out of character but I'm sure the more you build the work back up to her normal routine the more she will settle down.

Lots of chocolate and games for you Friday night!

P.S. Think of the wonders this is doing for your seat

Oh H_J, please don't be blue. You seem to be forgetting the vital thing here - she's on the mend!!! That in itself is brilliant news and I'm sure all this will seem like a distant memory in a few months. If she's been in for 7 weeks, she's bound to be a bit exuberant (sp?!) so I definitely think that lunging her is a wise move until she has calmed down a little.

Chin up and big hugs to you. I know you guys will be back on form in no time

Lets hope she calms down soon then.

We had the chicken and egg situation, do we turn out (and expect a hooney for the first 5 mins
crazy.gif
) and then try to get on coz he will be calmer or do we ride (hoping super glue will help) without any turn out to try and strengthen his ligament.

We decided (with advice from vets) to walk in hand for a while as you are doing and then the night before he went out we starved him, so he drept about grass

, and then luckily he wasnt too bad in the field and much better to be ridden.

I know its a hard and long road, but there is light at the end of the tunnel (we are currently going through our second tunnel

) Keep your chin up luvvy Im sure you are doing a grand job!

oh dear I have no experience of this but I can imagine how frustrating and upsetting it must be, so {{hugs}} and remember things will be back to normal soon - good luck.
