Hi everyone,

I might be going to see a rescue this weekend who is currently at a sanctuary, she's an oldish girl (16) and needs rebacking.

Is there any additional questions I should make sure I ask with her being a rescue or anything I should look out for that I wouldn't normally?

This is more than likely a daft question but the stupidly sensible girl in me wants to make sure all bases are covered. :o

Thanks.

Blimey I would have a list as long as my arm.
Why at 16 does she require rebacking? What was she doing upto the point she stopped working? What was the reason for her stopping work, was it for example health related?

I know some of that already. The owner has had her since she was a foal but is now too old (nearly 90) to look after them, were ridden and driven as youngsters then used as a broodmare then left out to graze with the herd. The sanctuary seem to think there wouldn't be a problem bringing her back into work.

With an owner that age it is likely the horse has missed out on worming and tooth care as well
I would expect the sanctuary to have started hoof care and the worming and dentist but be sure to ask what has already been done.
Also ask what happens if it does not work out--if she cannot be ridden--will they take her back and also if your circumstances should change
