Hi,

Currently we (family and I) have two hens, used to have three but one got taken by the fox :(, both of which we've had since they were a few months old. However a few years on we have now decided that we would love to have some more chickens. We have all agreed that it would be nice to rehome some battery hens, rather than buying at young point-of-lay hens. I am based in gloucestershire. Does anyone have any ideas where to try and find some battery hens in this area? Or know who to contact??

All help, advice, and recommendations will be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

you could try the battery hen welfare trust

dont get too many, altho they are chucked out as egg laying has reduced after 1 year old, they will still lay far more than a pure breed.

they are completely charming! they will probably need toenails cutting when you get them as they are all curled over, but watching them scratch and peck for the first time, and red colour come into their wattles from the pale unhealthy colour they arrive with, is truly magical.

Good luck!
