Have you ever signed one? It's a private rehoming of a family members dog, neutered etc. already, just really wanting it to say that the dog will be returned if any issues, got to be kept in good health etc.-any suggestions for wording?
Is the potential owner going to run a mile when I mention it?
Meeting a potential new home tonight, so cross your fingers as the wee dog is nice enough but not suited to her current lifestyle.

I got a dog from a small private rescue - the contract says

That they must be contacted and approve any new home or he must go back to them
Must have his vaccs

They rest of the contract says all the usual stuff about how they have rehomed the dog in good faith, will always provide telephone advice but cannot be held liable yada, yada ;)

If it's anything similar to with horses, a 'first refusal' clause won't be worth the paper it's written on. And you couldnt actually do anything if it was mistreated, you're not the police or animal welfare.

You'd be better just trying to rehome to someone you totally trust. Xx

Maybe an overload for a private rehome, but our contracts include the following.

Upon adopting a dog from ************ you will be asked to sign a contract regarding the dog's future care. This is simply to ensure the dog has ongoing protection and support from ***************.

When you sign the contract, you will be agreeing to:

1) Under no circumstances part with the cat/dog, except to return to the carer (*****************) if for any reason, you can no longer care for the animal/s yourself.

2) To obtain qualified Veterinary treatment in the event of illness/injury.

3) To acknowledge and accept that the carer (*****************) may at any time reclaim possession of the animal/s, at their own discretion, if it is deemed that the animal/s is/are being cared for in any way they find unacceptable.

4) To have the animal/s neutered before the age of one year old in the event the animal/s not have been neutered before the time of adoption.

5) To ensure the animal/s receive yearly booster vaccinations for life.

6) To agree to give 4-6 weeks notice where possible to return the animal back into the care of ****************.

7) That any vaccination fees or donations cannot be refunded, should the animal/s be returned.

Ours obviously also remain chipped to our rescue for life, this is also explained on our contract.

Fingers crossed its the type of home you seek for her xx

Thank you,
this home wasn't suitable although the people were lovely, I'll copy most of those ideas, thanks! Not something I've been involved with before.
