This is all a nightmare!
As I said last week, I am looking for a light hack and a companion, so as everyone said to me to be careful about the lesser known rescue sites I have approached Redwings and Whw. Should be simple shouldnt it seeing as they have all the Amersham horses!
Well believe it or not, they have nothing for rehoming! There is not one hacking horse or pony! According to the search facilitie, nothing fits my criteria.
So I have 11 acres of good grazing and fencing, a loving ho:mad:me waiting and am offering to take 3 on, 1 as a hack and 2 as companions!
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Have you tried ringing them up? Sometimes the websites aren't up to date. I am SURE you will find something, what a lovely position to be in :)

No I havent tried Millhouse, will look that one up. There is one near me called Remus so I am going to give that a go too.
Redwings dont take calls, can only apply via website
you would think with all the Amersham horses they would be overflowing!!!
It is a lovely position to be in, a lovely old chap has given me the acres as he loves horses and wants to wake up in the morning and see them grazing on his land! So all I pay is a nominal amount towards his water bill

What? How shocking. You mean rescue charities take in horses that have had terrible pasts and that therefore can't necessarily be ridden, and they don't have a ready supply of horses all ready for you as soon as you want one? How disgraceful.... anyone would think they were prioritising horse welfare or something. Sheesh!

There are Amersham horses that need re-homing - they are on the RSPCA website. There was a link on here yesterday.

I'd try the RSPCA... I think they have quite a few of the Amersham horses, although from the press release yesterday they have only put a few of them up for rehoming at the moment.

Maybe give these places a call and put your name down. You never know what may be about to come up.

how bloody rude, my point was that there must be many horses or ponies needing a home and I saw the ad on tv yesterday, there was no need for you to be rude, manners are free you know!

Yes they are. Let me know when you get some.

Theses charities are there for the benefit of the horses, not you. So you have no grounds to complain because they don't have exactly what you want, when you want it. It's got nothing to do with not wanting to rehome the horses - it's about finding the right home for each individual horse, no matter what.

Quite a way from Wales then? There are a few good well known rescue places in Wales, but not sure how far away they will rehome their horses.

I guess with a lot of them, including the RSPCA horses, they aren't tested as rideable, it's the rideable one you're going to have more difficulty in getting, the companions are more widespread I would have thought.

Will have a think for you and PM if I hear of anything nearby that might be suitable.

TBH, I'm quite surprised that they don't have anything.
Even if you had to wait for a riding horse, I'd though they'd be snapping your hand off to take two non-ridden off them.

Hi WHW have got 7 horse/pony hacks on their website at the moment 3 14hh and under and 4 15hh plus. They update their website everyweek on a wednesday around midday it states this on the site.
The horses above are all around the country at the various rehoming centres
and have detailed descriptions about them
hope this helps

Do try Remus, I have always found them really helpful and I know they have had a huge influx of horses and ponies over the winter which has really stretched their resources.

Don't know if they have anything suitable, but they are a small charity to much easier to get through to the people in charge so you can find out straight away.

Agree with LLewelyn please do try Remus--speak to Sue

They do not often have ridden horses--but had their calendar last year and they were delighted to have rehomed some for riding to a lovely home.
They are pleased to be asked as they have taken in some very neglected cases which consume resources.

Depending on what type of horse you're looking for, you could try racehorse rehoming charities. Some of their horses are only suitable as light hacks due to injury or another reason. :)

Have you tried the Blue Cross? They always appear to have many companion horses looking for good homes. They also provide financial assistance through some sort of trust fund to help towards worming, vacs etc.

Have you tried Horse Rescue, small place near Monks Tofts, they have a nice gelding on there that may fit your bill and I think he has been on there som time.http://www.horserescuefund.org.uk/

Please forgive me as I havent read your previous posts earlier in the week, but there do seem to be a few horses for loan on the horsedates classified section?

In addition to this try specific breed sites as sometimes they have retired broodmares etc seeking companion homes.

The World horse welfare seem to have loads on their webiste for companion homes and Redwings so it seems strange they are saying they havent got any.

Good luck in your search anyway.

If you call redwings, you may find they have more horses then what is on the website.

They tend to have a sort of waiting list of people wanting horses, so most of the horses never make it onto the website :)

Spudlet,
wind your neck in a tad eh? I wasnt moaning because they had nothing suitable, I was having a rant as I find it hard to believe! Difference love.
Redwings do have companions on there now but when I put in light hack on the drop down for Redwings and Whw there is nothing suitable coming up.
All is not lost though, I have had a look at Rspca too now and they have some lovely looking horses on there, not that I am being fussy (before anyone shots me down)
Will ring Sue too, hadnt thought of the blue cross.
Thanks everyone

My my, Spudlet has got a bee in their bonnet this week!!

OP I know what you mena re rescue horses although for obvious reasons there are generally more companion only horses and ponies than ones that can be ridden. However, it does always amaze me how these rescue centres say they are overflowing and put out pleas for people to rehome the horses yet seem to make it very difficult to actually rehome them!

It seems to be similar with dogs and cats to be honest. Yes I know they want to be careful and want to do home checks etc etc but I never quite get why they seem to be able to find every reason under the sun why this horse/dog/cat won't be suitable for you!

I would try the RSPCA, The Blue Cross and also google for local horse resuce centres in your area. There is also a racehorse rehab/rehoming place as far as I know, they may have more ones suitable to be ridden but I guess it may depend what type of horse you're after. The Blue Cross recently seemed to have some lovely horses suitable for hacking. I think The Amersham horses are likely to need a bit more TLC etc although i am sure some would be suitable for hacking in time and it'd be very rewarding to take one on and see it flourish with some loving care.

Yes very true, we have 3 dogs and wanted to rehome one from Battersea, goodness it was such a nightmare that we gave up in the end.
I do understand that they have to be careful and obviously there will be more that are companions than hacks and I really wasnt having a moan off about it!
I would love to give a nervous or rescued horse/pony like the Amersham ones a home.
However, that said, I dont mind where the horse comes from, I just refuse to give dealers my money!

Try HEROS they have lots for hacking only, and also companions. They will be Tbs so would need plenty of food in the winter and careful rugging, but not all ex-racehorses are potty. I have an ex-racer who is bombproof to hack. Also, you'll get plenty of help and back-up if you ever need it from heros.

Hear hear. I tried to rehome a dog from a cat/dog home, we were unsuitable for one thing and another, had to then buy one, which I may add is a perfectly happy/healthy well looked some what spoiled pooch.

If your really struggling with the resue centres try web sites like project horse they always have companions/light hacks advertised, and although are not resue horses as such they are still in need of good homes like yours.

I have seen two rideable horses on WHW website at Glenda Spooner Farm, have another look. Don't give up hope - just keep looking they do come up.
