H i there - on Saturday my little welshie managed to get her reins caught around her hind fetlock (not entirely sure how - one minute I was holding the rein - we were at a show and next minute she tried to eat the grass and ommphhhh - very bad neglectful lapse on my part) and although she panicked a bit and pulled it really tight she seemed fine up until today, she wasnt lame at all. Now the leg is all swollen, hot and very tender and there is crusting around the back of the pastern but no blood. I have hibscrubbed in and cold hosed it for 30 mins, bandaged up with an ice pack and given her half a sachet of bute. If no change tomorrow I will get vet out but I was wondering if anyone had anything similar to this I am worried she has done some long term damage to the tendon or something.

My horse had a rope burn caused in an accident in the horse box. I treated with salt water and powder/purple spray and cold hosing. Horse was also turned out to reduce the swelling. (It swelled up but did go down within a few days.) As your horse isnt lame I think you are probably on the right lines although I probably wouldnt bandage unless the wound was deep and likely to get infected or if it needed poulticing, which may be an idea as it sounds like there might be a bit of infection.
I suppose the thing to do would be to phone your vet and see what they suggest before you call him out.

My pony did this back in may with loan family, they called the vet out and put hm on anti-biotics for a week and it healed up quite well but slowly and left a mark, unfortunatley he cut his pastern in late august on wire in the same place and it took much longer to heal due to the burn and the mark is now more of a line lol.
