And i'm sorry, but it makes me agree with the article posted in 'latest news' from the Gardian.. I feel sorry for todays dressage horses!!
That looked like a very well schooled horse, on the aids and working with it's rider.. today they look like circus ponies performing tricks!!

I wonder how that test would be marked against todays tests???????

I remember watching this at the time when I was desperate to learn, and what I took from it then was how easy it seemed to him, and I was too in awe of what he was doing to figure any of it out.
I watch it now and realise what incredible hands the man had. You could probably, (churlishly) pick some holes in the piaffe and passage, but at what price have these been improved?
I was quite choked watching that, the horse was so joyously forward.
Hmmmm........not sure how to resolve this with my admiration of today's riders...........

Its amazing to see the difference in breeding over the last 10-15 years of the top dressage horses.

I watch Reiner's test and think - wow - what a fantastically schooled horse, I want to be able to ride like that - I watch Anky's test and think, well I could never get a horse like that, and even if I did, I probably wouldn't be able to ride it. Uninspiring if you ask me.

Is it all becoming a bit of a circus act of who's horse has the flashiest paces?

You took the words right out of my mouth. Do you think that we are becoming so obsessed with accuracy that we are losing the 'true' objective of the movement.
I was fascinated watching him working around the arena before the test started.

Thanks so much for the link. The best dressage performance I have ever seen came from this pair rehearsing for their HOYS display. The perfect partnership - poetry in motion.
