Does anyone have the problem of the buckle end of the reins catching round the front of your saddle..so just a little under the flap...its quite annoying although not a major issue....the saddle fits and I use a saddle cloth...I have tried shorter reins but then they are just a bit too short.

Quite a few people I have spoken to seem to have the same problem but no1 seems to have a remedy..other than perhaps made to measure reins...even then occasionally you need to slip them so you need some spare...

I used to, but for some reason it doesn't happen any more. Maybe I'm holding my hands slightly higher, I'm not sure. Weird. Umm, extra long reins would be a good idea, or maybe bendier reins so that they move more easily and don't get stuck.
btw, have a look at Northumbria Equine, they make the lovely bendy rubber Jelly Reins, to order, any length, I'm having some made now (buckle end, a bit longer than normal reins, very reasonable) and ERA members get a discount... :) :) :) All products made in & sent from Walsall, prices are in Canadian dollars on the website but you can check the exchange rate on www.xe.com
www.northumbriaequine.ca or www.northumbriaequine.ca/horse-products.htm should work.

I have this problem also and I find that the more flexible the rein the worse it seems to be. The only reins that don't do it are my new and not very bendy rubber grip reins which I use for dressage. Or perhaps they are more weightier than the others so hang better. I have tried shorter reins for showjumping/xc but still get them going under the flap of the saddle etc so I have resorted to putting a knot in the end of the reins to keep them in the right place. When just hacking out I seem to end up holding an extra loop of rein to keep them out of the way.
