Reins rubbing horse's shoulder

My horse has white hair (in places, he's coloured).... I have noticed that on his cannon bones he is getting rubs from the brushing boots he wears in the field, and the pink skin is showing. Easliy fixed, he's no longer wearing boots in the field. Problem is, I have a similar rub on one shoulder, caused by the reins I think (friction). The pink skin is now showing through quite clearly.
Anyone know if you can get sheepskin or something to put on reins? Or any other solutions?

erm us plain leather reain they might hellp or use witch hazel on the area to toughen up the skin xx

Sheepskin sunds like a good idea. ou could use a noseband or cheek piece sleeve

or hold your hands apart and a little higher.
