Relocating and need advice!

Hello,

I have just been offered a job in Taunton and looking to relocate there from overseas.

I have one horse, which I showjump regularly and looking for a livery yard for him.

I am also looking for ideas of places to live!! Somewhere rural-ish and good area for horses!! Ideally located centrally between Taunton and Bristol (other half working there!)

Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Many thanks

Half way(isn) between Taunton and Bristol would be Weston-super-Mare..... where I live

You could look a little further South West, to Highbridge, Burnham-on-Sea and similar areas more inland towards Cheddar or Mark direction, but you don't want to be too far off the M5 or A38, as travelling can get a bit of a chore.

Not sure about yards, as we have our own land, but there are hundreds of them in this area, and jumping wise you have loads of places like The Hands Stadium in Clevedon, Badgeworth Arena, in ... Badgeworth (near Cheddar), Stockland Lovell just outside Bridgwater, Pontispool on the outskirts of Taunton and there must be loads more.

Some areas are much better served with hacking than others, even in areas with quite a few yards; so when you start house hunting, do a google earth search and look for bridleways, as it is quite surprising how some very rural areas actually have almost no off road hacking.

There are lots of forum members in this area, so you should get some more informed information from people who are on yards and who compete locally.

I live nr wsm and have horses close by nr crooks peak which is good for riding but the best riding would be quantocks so over stowey and surrounding areas which is near stockland Lovell equestrian, pontispoll etc and loads of other horsey establishments. Also mole valley farmers nearby and countrywide farmers. Good hunt is West Somerset Vale if that is your thing or Quantock staghounds.
