so thought i would try again as im desperate for some advice! im looking to relocate from yorkshire to reading/bracknell area. Has anyone else had to relocate their horse? What things do you need to consider? Obviously i need a place to keep him and find a farrier/vet/haylage/straw supplier but where do i start? (If anyone knows of any good farriers/vet/haylage and straw suppliers in the reading/bracknell area please let me know! oh and any diy/grass livery too!) Is there anything else i need to consider?
Getting him down there is also an issue as i have no horsy transport of my own - do i hire a trailer myself or enlist the help of a transport company?
Please someone help!

Hello, I have recently relocated me and my horse from Hertfordshire to Oxfordshire.

Firstly we found our house (just renting at the moment), I asked on here for liveries in the area and then drove around a few and dropped in any I liked and asked for vacancies. In the end the estate agent that we rented the house through told us of a yard a couple of min walk fromt the house so went and had a look and liked it.
Once I knew where she was going I then asked around for feed merchants etc. My yard sells hay so don't have to worry about that. Luckily I knew of a vet in the area and asked at the yard for a farrier.

A friend delivered Spring for me as I don't have my own transport but I have used a horse transporter in the past (can give you details).

Most importantly I made sure that Spring had new shoes and everything up-to-date, stocked up on feed etc so I didn't have to worry for the first few weeks in the new place.

You soon find your way around. The BHS website is a good place to start looking for yards, sadly I don't know Reading at all, but good luck with you move!

We've always had someone drive us up and down to where ever we need to go. I always feel way safer that way, knowing it is someone who knows their job - have a look in h&h, they have some transport ads. good luck!

Hi, dont know the area so cant help with the local stuff, but have moved horses both ways - doing it myself and getting a transporter to do it, and the transporter way was far less stressful. the best one I used was a guy called Gavin something who advertised in H&H but I believe he doesn't do transport any more. I will PM you with my second choice, used them a few times and very reliable.
