we are currently investigating front leg lameness in my horse and the vet has suggested he may benefit from remedial shoeing. can my farrier do this? and if this is a cause to his lameness would i notice a differnce straight away?
he is slightly piegon toed and the vet has noticed his pasterns are not that even and one side of his shoe is more worn than the other possibly pointing to incorrect hoof balance

Your farrier should be able to, my farrier does remedial as well as normal shoeing. Have had different types of remedial with my mare. The difference you could see within days first made it worse as changing how she walked then improved a lot.

It depends on what he means by remedial shoeing and in the first instance your vet should be discussing your horse's needs directly with your farrier otherwise you risk causing offence. The vet and farrier together with the owner should then agree if the current farrier can undertake the work or if another more experienced farrier needs to be brought in. Hope this helps.

some farriers depening on the amount that is needing to be done are able to correct problems but if your farrier hasnt already spotted the problem and taken steps towards preventing problems then i would question their ability to correct it

my farrier is just a basica qualified farrier, i think there are lots of levels and such, but he does a really good job on my horses feet who is quite special in the foot department
