'Dog was subdued lacking appetite shivery depressed standing with a slightly arched back temperature 104.5 seen by vet straight away'

I posted this back in October.Tests blood urine pooh samples and cultures done reveiling normal results white cel count normal loads of x rays on neck back spine hips intestines everything absotely fine.
Antibiotics and metacam for 2 weeks .Within 48 hours absolutely back to normal bouncing around like normal.
This Monday the whole thing started again after weeks of being fine for 12 weeks Straight to vets exactly the same medication now back to normal once again.
I have now been refered to a canine specialist for scans joint taps and yet more tests.
Off for the all day appointment tomorrow
Vets a bit baffled as he responds so quickly to antibioticsto treatment and is absolutely fine within 48 hours.
Whatever it is he goes from well dog to poorly dog in less than 8 hours .He is a year old and my 2 others dogs are fine.
Really worried now.

I had this with my old lurcher. took him to vets as he was really subdued and clearly not feeling right but all tests came back normal so he had a course of antibiotics. A few months later, same thing happened again, antibiotics and came right again. But over two year period the time between "episodes" got shorter. In the end vet gave him an extended course of antibiotics (about a month from memory) and he never suffered again from whatever it was! Cost me an absolute fortune over the two years as he wasn't insured (not that it would have changed my mind or the teatment) and always seemed to fall ill out of hours.

Would trying extended course of antibiotics be an option for you? We never did get to the bottom of what my dog was suffering from, presuming some kind of virus, but he was very down (usually very bouncey) , stiff when he walked and didn't really want to do anything.

Good luck with yours (crosses fingers and toes!)

Just got back he had full MRI scans and CSF taps to get joint and spinal fluid which have been sent off for analysis.
There is nothing physically wrong joints spine etc fine.
The vet was very knowledgeable and helpful he feels it is a triggered immune response problem which he says is very treatable and in a most cases completely curable will need long term treatment (weeks /months) and new and very good drugs available
Will decide what drugs when the results are through meantime carry on with anti biotics as he has responded to them
Despite the 3 hour drive there and3 hours back and a general anaesthetic he is bright and bouncy and ate a lovely tea of cooked chicken rice and mince and asked for more.
The vet said he is a lovely gentle boy and despite all the messing about with him he was good natured and kind dog and never eve n grumbled .He wants to take him home .!!

Feel a bit more releivedas hopefully we can sort it out.

Im so pleased that the vets visit went well and Im sure with that long journey your mind must have been in overdrive thinking the worst.

He sounds a lovely boy and took it all in his stride, lets hope it can be sorted quickly.
