Lets be honest, it's not much fun right now is it? We went from freezing cold with frozen unrideable surfaces to being always soaked, wet and muddy. I can't be the only person who has been looking at their horses and really not looking forward to riding can I?? Takes me at least 30 mins to catch in, reduce mud and tack up to get out. ..

A friend booked an indoor school (Merrist wood!) for 4 of us and my YO taught us. I actually enjoyed myself, worked my horse properly, could see where I was going, could WORK in canter, and .....stayed dry! I actually rode in a polo shirt and long sleeved shirt underneath..

So for all you vast armies of similiarly fed up people...maybe do this yourself ?! Very sadly I can not afford to do this very often but came out with a big smile on my face...we all deserve a break from this weather (or to quote a 13 year old at my yard... I am so OVER this rain!)

Do it!! We were loading up seriously unimpressed horses in the pouring rain and it was so lovely to ride in the dry.. My boy is 5 but didn't start till this year. His somewhat erratic work pattern at the moment is not great for him and he is getting a little too sharp for his own good right now. It was just wonderful to work him properly and he was really trying and back to his normal self at the end of the hour. I am riding him as many times in the week but no fast work or really long hacks to bottom him out..hence a very fresh baby !

I'm the same after a few weeks of rubbish weather Xmas work etc horses have seemed more of a chore I've not rode in about 3 weeks so tonight I decided to ride my youngster and she was brill now I can't wait to go ride in the morning :) fingers xd she goes just aswel x

I'm the same, months of me being off injured - I start to come
Right get two rides in and the flooding began :(
Seriously thinking of trading neds for an ark grr

We had no rain today, a bit cold but nice. Hacked out with a friend and a few of the riding school kids. It was just an hour of hacking on country roads, but I really enjoyed it. Especially so, because my daughter was hacking with me. (LOL, "Mam, you ACTUALLY can ride"). ACTUALLY is her favourite word right now. xx

Did exactly the same at MW with a group just before Xmas. It was heaven to be able to canter properly in a big area, not be soaking wet, and just remember what the point of it all is.

Hi,

Unfortunately we don't have a indoor school for hire locally - but today I too really enjoyed riding - even though I was wet and cold - a most amazing thing happened - during a hack in company I finally got boyo to rein-back (only been trying to train him since Feb) TWICE !! OMG - I even did a Snoopy Happy Dance in the stable.....:D:D:D:D:D

LOL At least you know you are in the middle of winter! We are having summer here and the rain is awful....I am usually pleased to see some rain to keep our water tank topped up and the ground soft....but this is ridiculous!!!

I have to say that I would never have gone to the bother of booking and hiring an indoor school, particularly for flatwork but a friend sorted it all out. I have taken the youngster to Oldencraig and MW before so know he can cope with indoors and mirrors. There is also the expense as well. However the joy of being able to focus on riding and not worrying about the ground conditions or gradually freezing made a huge difference. It's a huge chunk of time as 40 to 45 mins each way in the lorry plus prep and then cleaning up but really was worth it...
