I was feeling a bit sad today and remembering my beautiful mare.
I was given her for free as an untouched, unbroken feral 4 year old! I had never broken a horse in my life, but took my time over it, I could never get her to go on the long reins though and one day, as I was taking her for an in-hand walk with her head-collar and lead-rope on, i just tied the lead-rope onto her head-collar and jumped on! My mum was watching from the house and i could see this look of sheer horror on her face as she thought the horse was going to go ballistic. Horse calmly wandered home with me on her as if nothing had ever happened! :D

Sadly, I lost her shortly afterwards to a ruptured diaphragm when she skidded in the field and twisted and fell awkwardly. I was totally devastated. Here is a picture of her, Romany Dream, TB X Hanovarian Chestnut mare, the best horse I ever had. Anyone else want to remember the ones we have had to say goodbye to?

I lost my beautiful Seren back in October and I still miss her every day, she was truly amazing and taught me so much, had her for over 19yrs and I was totally blessed. She was taken suddenly from me by Colic, she had never suffered colic in her life until that fateful day :( RIP my beautiful girl

They're all so beautiful :)

Cheeky, who lived up to his name 100% and who I miss endlessly. He was a star and I hope he's causing as much havoc wherever he is now as he did down.

Bramble (or Bumble as we called his, as he did!). He stepped in at the very last minute, coming out of retirement, for my sister to ride him over the summer as her little mare had had to be PTS. They were in the top 3 at every event and he made what could have been a horrible summer a fantastic one for a little girl who'd lost her best friend.

Misty, who was a madam with a very high opinion of herself. She was bright pink with an orange mane and tail and was 12.2hh. Here, she's jumping round a 2'6 XC course with her 9 year old jockey... She was kicked whilst being turned out and her shoulder was fractured. She was PTS as her chances of recovery were so small due to the nature of the fracture. It absolutely broke Al's heart which did the same for the rest of us.

Red, who was a pony every parent dreams of. He was very old, his rider was so small and skinny she weighed the same as the saddle and so he had to be ridden in a pelham so she could steer and stop him. Going forwards appeared to be a process of him deciding he'd been stationary for long enough! He was PTS after a lovely summer recently where he'd been in his element giving children hacks round the farm and terrorising the 'proper' ponies!

I lost my beautiful girl on 16th August last year to colic. She sadly got laminitis in her loan home, came back to me recovering well only to loose her 8 weeks later.

This was my mums cob Arthur, she hacked him & I competed him. He was a cob. We had him on loan for about 2yrs, then had the chance to buy him which we did as he was superstar & 2 weeks after buying him he went slightly lame & got worse, he was diagnosed with ringbone, sidebone & navicular & just got worse over time to the point he barrel loaded me in the stable & was very unhappy so we took the decision to make him pain free :(

Arthur Mo (please excuse my face in the first pic oh & my massive hat :p)

Lovely idea to remember them all but causing many tears.
Hugs to all of you who have loved and lost.
This is my very special boy Obi who died on Christmas morning last year from the dreaded colic. He was only 4 and a half and was a home-bred wonky donkey who we loved very much. RIP darling boy I so miss you....

They are all so beautiful, made myself cry now :o

Here is Billy aka "lethal weapon" - an ex point to pointer i used to show. This is a pic of his dad on the left, his dad's best friend, and me winning a working hunter class on him at our first show. He was 17.1hh and I was 15!

My baby... Fleur was 17mths old, an exceptionally bum high 15.3 and after surviving a terrible stifle injury and becoming almost totally sound - she had to be pts with a gut torsion... :(

My first horse and she symbolised a new start for the family after a difficult bereavement... A beautiful, mellow tempered girl who's terribly missed... She had a job, did it, and then moved on...

the [ to me] very splendid Rubys Jewel - big Rubes to her friends - PTS on valentines day this year - i am still at the shocked stage & look in "her" field every day to see how she is:(
she was 22 - we had exhausted all forms of treatment for her arthritis & was having to be buted just to go out in a paddock
i owned her for 9 yrs & she had almost trained me to be an adequate care giver - no horse will ever come near to her in my eyes

Dusty, bought aged 23, died aged 39. I have so much to thank her for, she was my best friend when I was a very sad, lonely little girl.

And with Gwen, who died a few months earlier. I got them both the same year and they both died 16 years later, I lost my two best friends all at once and I miss them terribly.

This picture was at one of her fave cross country courses en route to a win. RIP beautiful girl.

*WARNING* Photo of blood coming up.

Ellie was 29 when we had her pts in August 2010. She was bitten by a dog in the field some months earlier and had never really recovered.
