Right I'll try and keep it short, I have the farrier coming next week (my own) not the one that was previously shoeing the loan horse, he requires remidial shoeing/correct shoeing to help his boxfoot which also happens to be the foot with the sidebone. Vet recomended my own farrier and said he's speak to him but just incase they don't catch each other before then:-

From those of you that have had the above senario, what exactly should my farrier be discussing with me or what should I be expecting him to do as to how we go from here in trying to improve the foot and the sidebone?

Will he require a different type of shoe on that particular foot?
Will he need to come more often than the norm?

Basically any info would be helpful.

Have you rung your farrier to make sure that he has spoken to vet?

Yes he will be speaking with him before next weekend but I booked the farrier today and spoke to him about it.

Vet is not in today but he's now due to ring me tomorrow about something else because I rang them today to chase LU up, he must work away on Thursdays, so yes I will do what I can to make sure one of them rings the other one, but knowing what their like and how busy they are I just wanted to know other peoples experiances and what their farrier do/did etc

When my boy first got sidebone he was shod with normal shoes . However the outside edge of the shoe on the affected leg was filed off which helped him when he turned that way (He did not hop as much!!) Once the sidebone settled down after about 18 months he just had normal shoes. He is still hunting at 18 yrs.
