Sorry, cheesy title lol

We really want to put a rubber surface on our school, but we can't afford it :(

What we DO have is a mass load of car tyres (and I mean a silly number) and I'm trying to work out what will be the most effective way of removing all the steel and chipping it all. I'm sure our wood chipper would handle the rubber, it's the steel that the problem.

Any ideas? (or anyone willing to donate their old rubber surface ;) )

Most rubber chippings used for arena are from the car surrounds of the doors and windows
I also think that only the walls of tyres have the wire through them so if you had a way to cut the sides off then use the other for chipping but I doubt a wood chipper would work for very long.

Door and window seals, really?

The steel beads (the rings that are inside the tyres where it meets the rim) are easy to remove; around the edge with a sharp stanley.

It's the steel 'plate' as it were around the tyre, under the tread, which is the tricky bit.
