Due to having to tighten the belt a little (actually scrap that ... a lot) I have decided to remove my girls back shoes.

She has already done half the job for me and has taken one off already, but she has already done a TB over reaction, of "oh god it hurts, it hurts, cut it off, cut it off!"

Que major wobble from me.

So being a hard hearted wotsit/being broke, I am determined to see this footyness through, but how long do I give it before I start to re-consider.

I will say, when Ru was younger she was only shod at the front and did do very well. I can't remember why I did get backs put on, it might have been the sand school scouring the hooves away

She is unbalanced at the mo don't forget with only having 1 back shoe on

After both come off and a tidy up she should come good soon enough if after 2 weeks she's still being a diva then think somemore

Look at her diet (lots of green grass and grain is not good for horses!) as that will affect how sensitive her feet are.

Also investigate hoof boots. They're expensive in the short term but much cheaper that shoes in long run. And once you know what model and size will suit her foot shape you could try and buy second hand(yey for ebay)

Kallibear, thanks will do.

However, discovered today, after removing the other back (which isn't at all as sensitive), that the sensitive foot is more due to a wacking great bruise. Suspect that when she did the self removal that she managed to stand on the clip. So now we have a poulticed foot.

i took my boys back shoes off about 4 month ago. He was forever coming in having ripped the front ones off from running round the field like a nutter. Overreach boots were soon ripped to shreds or never to be seen again. his shoes lasted sometimes hours. at the most a week. His feet were cracked from the amount of times the shoe had been nailed on and his feet were getting weaker. Hes such a wimp and gets really foot sore. i decided to take the back ones off in hope it would stop him pulling the front ones off and it did. His feet are great now with the help of vets vits equihoof supplement his feet are rock hard, healthy and hes so much happier. his front shoes stay on until its time to be shod again. i would also highly recommend equihoof to anyone. At around £16 a tub you cant go wrong! Best thing i ever did! Hope this helps!
