Help I am struggling to remove to stitches in my horses leg, I have removed two but cant get to the others as proud flesh has grown over the knots! all I can see is the tails.
my mother is a nurse, she removes stitches from all of our many animals (get some vaseline and rub it into the entry/exit sites) slowly start to ease the stitches till they move to view, it may be uncomfortable but should not hurt, when you can see the knots then remove. Unless you can remove the whole lot then do not attempt to try, to do this may leave a 'foreign body' and would cause to many probs. Hope this helps
i know plenty of people capable of removing their own animals stitches, and they do, with no problem, to the animal and all encouragement off the vet. if you are in any doubt then yes do ask the vet, and if they are trick then got to your vet, but if you can snip and pull, then go for it, be gentle, use vaseline if the skin sticks and you should be ok. If the skin has well and truly grown over the knot though then it has been left too long, and if you are not experienced and cofident then best left to a skilled hand.
My mum is neither a vet or a nurse and she has succesfully removed an stitch that has dared to enter our house..She recently removed 14 from her own finger and the scar is brilliant. She says just be confident, 10 to 12 days then snip and pull. Clean hands and clean wound.
