Removing the glue left by polster-plast?

My mare is 10-days post-op following Kissing Spines surgery, and her wound is covered by a guaze pad and Polster plast. The dressing is supposed to be changed every 3-4 days, the instructions from the vets say "after removing the polster plast, use surgical spirit to ensure that all traces of glue are removed, dry the area and apply new dressing".

I can't get the glue off!! Surgical spirit just doesn't touch it, even when I really scrub quite hard (considering she's recently had surgery!), it loosens the superficial glue and I can scrape a bit off with my nails, but I'm just getting more and more build up of sticky stuff, which is making a very itchy horse even more uncomfortable!

I'm hoping to only have to do one more dressing change before the stitches are out, but if anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful!

Thanks

Baby Oil!

I had a job to get rid of it. I smothered it in baby oil and then gently scratched it with my finger nail and it came straight off!

Try zoft, it's a box of sachets of wipes impregnated with something specifically designed to remove adhesive plaster residue. My mum brought some for me this week, I was very sceptical but it's done a brilliant job of removing about a months build up of polster-plast stickiness.

I'm contemplating nail varnish remover down the sides of my mares leg (ensuring that it goes nowhere near the actual wound) but having read the above I might try baby oil first.

The zoft is about a fiver for a box of 20 wipes

Thanks for all the ideas - I struggle with removing the glue, find that the surgical spirit won't remove it but will sure as hell stop it from sticking a new bit on!!!
