Hello everyone,

Slightly random question but...

I just wondered if anyone had any advice on renting a private yard? They dont seem to become available very often through estate agents and wondered if anyone else had experience of finding a rental property? How did you go about it?

Apologies if I've put this in the wrong place!

I rent a private yard (7 acres, 2 large stables, barns for storing haylage, and a resonable sized tack room) It is tuck away from the main road and i only knew about it as some friends (i used to ride one of their horses) kept their horses there a few years back. I was looking for somewhere to rent and remembered about that place. I went up there to see if it was being rented out or anything already but it was deserted. I left i a note up there for the owner of the land to see if they would consider renting it out and the rest is history! I have to say my horse is SO much happier there than he was on a small livery yard!

Wow, it sounds like you were really lucky! I just seem to be drawing blanks left right and centre...the only adverts on the web are those for people who are also looking in the Yorkshire area! Perhaps this is why there arent any!

I suppose word of mouth or 'friend of a friend' situations are the most likely source.

Thanks for your help though!

it may be worth asking around. I know what you mean though. There were none advertised in my area!! Have you put any adverts out? Local feed shops/tack shops etc. People may be looking around for someone wanting to rent rather than advertising (if that makes sense!!)

I was very lucky and had a response to an ad I had put up on an online classifieds. I rent 7 acres, 2 stables and a tack room. Admittedly the stables had no roof when we took it on, but we sorted that and in exchange I have very cheap rent of £10 per week per horse.

Most wanted ads I see are looking for usually a number of stables, school etc - if you are looking for a small property with no school you will probably have more luck.
