I don't have any experience with this but i would have thought that if you contacted the Land Registry agency they could tell you who owns the land and it's registered purpose. That will let you know what the land is for as it might not be able to be used for equestrian use?
Then i would contact the land and planning department of the council...their number can be found on their website.
I do , I rent from my local village council , so might be idear to ask them (your local council )to see if they have any land that they wouldn't mind renting out
I pay 120.00 for 3 months but that is 4 acres grazing and water , maintaince of fencing , spraying
Just give the council a ring. I think it's normally the Estates office I deal with but they might be called something else under your council.
My council also have a website where they list the land and smallholdings they have to rent but it's not updated very regularly so it's normally best to phone them.
If you do manage to get a field off of them, chances are that they won't allow you to put a shelter on the field but you can get around this by making windbreaks out of old haylage bales.
As I said on the other thread, I was paying £50 per acre per year. A bargain...until they decided they were building on it this year and told me to get off.
Have a look at your local council's website, there should be info on there but you may need to be quick. Ours only gives grazing licences April to November and you have to tender for the privilege, if yours is the same then you will need to get a tender in fairly fast to be in with a shout.
I have been renting 2.65 acres for the past 5 years 365 days a year. The grazing agreements are quite strict stipulating no of horses allowed , weed control etc. I had to put in a tender for my field but the rent hasn't increased for the past 5 years. Kirklees Council had a list of people who were interested in renting land and would notify them when a piece became vacant, not sure if things have changed now or are different with other councils. As otheres have said ring the Council switchboard and ask to speak to someone who deals with grazing land.
One of them went through the process with me and mentioned they don't offer year round contracts in order to rest the fields.
I would be interested in setting up a track/paddock paradise system...so perhaps I could stay on if I promise to keep them on the track for a few months
I know people rent from our local councils but when I tried to contact them they told me they sell the land on instead of renting it even though I know loads of people who rent from them!
Think they just didnt like me
Meee again lol,
I've known a few rent from Blackpool council and they have been quite strict about the months it is/isnt used. One used to pay next to nothing though for one of the fields.
Fingers crossed you will manage to get fixed you, will pm you back
