my naughty boy had eaten through/unfastened and lost all but one of the original leather straps which came with his greenguard!!!! I have replaced them with baler twine but he has now learned that baler twine can be cut by hooking it over sharp twigs or bits of wire and pulling at it thread by thread... grrrrr!!! I tell myself I am lucky to own such a clever beastie but dear me he does try ones patience!
Any idea of either where I can get the leather straps or what I can use as an alternative?

You can get them by emailing Shires, they will send some out but the ones I got weren't leather. If I remember rightly I was sent 6 and told if I needed more to ask at the stockist where I bought the muzzle, which I have done since but they never have any in!

I think it is best to get the proper ones as they are designed to break, which bailer twine and nylon straps won't do. I may be wrong on that, but I have always been cautious as my mare spends a lot of time trying to get hers off, sometimes successfully, but I would not like her to get really stuck.

You are right, they need to be able to break in an emergency,Oz

I phoned Shires and they sent me a set free of charge. I am not sure if they were leather, if they were it was poor quality, but pony has proved they break quite easily.
