Replacing zip on Mountain Horse coat?

Has anyone successfully done this?

The zip has gone in my, admittedly old, Mountain Horse Oyster coat (looks like the new Grace). As this is the only thing wrong with it, it seems wasteful to chuck it & buy another one for £100, which is £100 I could be spending on rugs

So far I've tried a saddlery that does rug repairs & they say they haven't got the right machinery (so how would they go about replacing a zip on a rug which joins on the hood?)

I've tried e-mailing Mountain Horse which is only up the road. Their e-mail link doesn't work so I've phoned them & left a message. Not expecting to hear back tbh - why should they when I'll prob end up having to buy a new coat anyway.

Don't want to entrust it to a high street repairer as I suspect they'll put in a nasty cheap zip which will only last 2 minutes, so that will be a waste of money.

Any ideas, or do I have to bite the bullet & buy a new Grace, & buy one or two fewer rugs??

Could you return it to where you bought it from? I used to work in a saddlery and when this happened, we sent the product back to get a new zip from the manufacturers. There was a cost involved, it was not free though.

Quite happy to pay for it - it just seems wasteful to buy a whole new coat just because of the zip.

Try a cobbler/shoe shop. If you get a local place rather than a chain they are usually good quality. I've had both leather gaiters and synthetic chaps re-zipped.
