Well took song out for his 1st run after hartpury today at Gatcombe and to have a bit of a warm up before the Int at Pontispool in 2 weeks time!
Started off well got there quicker than we thought to plenty of time to get ready as it was only me and mum today. Walked the course which was very nice and kicking my self for not being brave and doing the Int as it was lovely and NO step out of water!!
Any way he warmed up nicely for the dressage if not a little wooded - saw MdeM on Orla and have to say O is lovely!! Went in and did a nice accurate test but don't think the judge like him or me got 5 and 6 for our give and retake as she said we didn't do it
but got mainly 6s & 7s so finished on 36.7 and pretty much out of the placings already as there were loads in the 20s
On to SJ he again warmed up well and went in to have 1 down which was my boggie fence being a very large gappy upright!!
Then the dreaded gatcombe XC - you may know that last year in the Int me and song both ended up in ambulances so was very relieved when it was over and done with - And just too add 1 year later the scab has just fallen off his knee to reveal new skin, don't think the hair will ever grow back but you never know, just very glad that i still have a horse to compete!
He warmed up very well so that was a start at then set off - Jumped 1, 2 and 3 nicely then 4, 5 & 6 were all on a left hand 1/2 circle. Well he left a leg at 4 (upright rails) so took us a bit of our line to 5 and gave him and impossible one to 6 but he knows what he's supposed to do so did it nicely. 7 was a corner, jumped it will but hit my knee on the flag - rather painful as it didn't fall off
the 8 was a wall, 9 a chase fence - both jumped well and then on to 10 which had been causing a few problems it was a hanging log on 1 or 2 (2 in songs case!) to a wall in to the wood - got close to the wall due to getting 2 in but did it well, then a jump in the woods to another wall with log at 12 to 13 and 14 on a right hand 1/2 circle this time 15 was the customary tiny house before the water and then the water was a drop with a small log on top to a hedge on the out - he did it fabulously (well i think he did!!) then on to the narrow chair to drop, again very good and then a skinnie log and on to a step up to a palisade - wasn't quite sure on the stride as it was 6 on top so he put in a small stride. Then on to the finish!! We ended up with 4.8 time as i wasn't going to get placed i didn't push him and was slowing up quite a bit for the question fences!!
So all in all a very
day and cant wait for Pontispool!!
