This is the first time I have done this but now feel it is something we all must do having just experianced this myself.

This afternoon me and my friend took our horses out for a short hack though our village, (location on a 2way road that narrows to one lane with a brick wall either side), we could hear a car coming up from behind who then decided to beep his horn at us and continued to drive at us through the narrow section of the road I turned my body round to view him, put my arm out and shouted stop..stop..stop and the driver just kept coming, he was that close that it would have only take me to put my foot/stirrup out and i would have hit his car. I thank that both our horse are good with traffic and that they did not shy at it.

We happenned to see the car and driver stopped further up the road, I politely mention about road safety but was greated with a rather aggressive old man.

I have now reported the matter to the police as I feel this man propably drives like this most of the time and may be the next person wont be so lucky as we where.

My point is how ever small the incident is we should reports bad drivers. so that these drivers are made aware of there actions.

Sorry for the long post, I feel so angry that some one could do that.

I think a lot of people know they drive dangerously, the problem is they just don't care.

Good for you though reporting him, if the police do visit him I hope its a wakeup call.

i was riding over a hump back bridge near our bridlepath (traffic light operated). As i was riding down over the bridge a taxi driver just couldnt wait as the lights went green his side.
he sat there with his hand on the hooter. My horse got scared and continued down sideways just missing a van infront of the taxi. I thought i was going through the van drivers windscreen. We come across behavour like this on every hack - I could tell you a few stories believe me. Motor bikes down bridle baths are another story.

The police can issue £80 fines to people that have been aggressive to other road users so if i were you i would chase the police to fine him and maybe when his pockets £80 lighter he'll think twice about acting like such a pratt.
Good on you for reporting him - its so easy just to let it go and these idiots could end up hurting another horse in the future.

I am still so angry, this is not the first time I have come across a close encounter but it is the first time I have actually caught up with the driver and was able to speak to them, there was no appology just a lot of abbuse.

The police was very good and fully understood the situation, The police officers daughter also rides so he could understand where i was coming from.

Will wait and see if any thing happens.

I have met a few like that and been yelled at aswell! My youngster used to be 100% bombproof in traffic until one day we had an accident with a car on a narrow road. It took a year to get his confidence back and I still have to be careful. These people annoy me so much, it only takes a few seconds to put your foot on the brake and could avoid a serious accident!

I driving friend who does not need the whip on his 4 ponies has a small fishing lead weight on the end and flicks car drivers when they pass to quickly or without givign him room. Says it is amazing the how quickly they learn!

An old man overtook me and a friend on the way back from a competition. My friends horse was young and some lads in a car had been barking out of a car window at him so we couldn't get out of the way in the gateway so we trotted up the hill (about 100 yds) to a layby but he couldn't wait and put his foot down and overtook us in the narrow part (high banks either side. I whacked his roof twice with my whip (he had already passed the youngster and he pulled in the layby and stopped where we had words! I have seen him several times since then and he has always slowed down so maybe it did do some good. In fact the last time I was out with my daughter on her pony and he stopped and wound his window down. I thought 'oh no here we go' and all he said was good afternoon - nice pony as he nodded at daughters pony and off he went (slowly!!).

Another day a driver told me he would drive in a field if he wanted to meet horses and I told him I would ride on the M3 if I wanted to meet a moron like him - about the only time I have thought of something to say at the time and not aftrewards.

We are always meeting speeding cars - I banged on the side of another car as I led my son (aged 5 at the time) on pony down a narrow lane as it speeded up to go past us .

I have decided that a strategically placed whip and failing that stirrup might deter some. I love the fishtank gravel idea might have to use rice as i don't have a fishtank! I always say thank you to people who slow down.
