After hearing about that story of a horse being deliberatly hit.

Is there an organisation as to where we can report any Road Traffic Accidents such as the BHS?

I have had quite a few near misses and a few hits whilst out riding and was wondering if there was anywhere we could report this back to, as im sure there are alot more incidents that happen that we dont know about.

Even if there was a site where we could just enter details online.

We really do need more protection out on the roads, I always make sure that my horse and I are as visable as possible by wearing hi viz products, this just does not seem to make a difference.

I would like to see these careless drivers riding a horse and see how terrifying it can be!!!

I find this exceedingly worrying, as this is a rural area and the horse was hit by (I assume?) another rural road user - ie. a vehicle with trailer. I have made that assumption but I have no knowledge. However, it is of grave concern. Would this happen (Heaven forbid!) to a mum pushing a pram, a cyclist, someone walking their dogs along the road....etc.... They are all equally dreadful.

I was hit by a bus whilst wearing enough flourescent reflective gear in broad daylight to be seen over a mile away!! Obviously this was reported to the police (thankfully both of us were fine just rather shaken!) At that time the police have told me to report every single incident, they reckon if nothing else it will make the drivers think twice.

I have reported a driver since (using the non-emergency police line) whose number plate apparently doesn't exist although i have seen the car again!! My guess is these people would not exactly welcome a visit from the poilice for many other reasons too! if nothing else it is recorded as an incident so can go into official stats which all count!

It is important when reporting an incident to the police that you are for an 'Incident Number' as this ensures that it is entered in to the system.

Also get to know your local Rural Community Police Officer as in many cases if the culprit lives locally they will pay them a visit.

The BHS has an accident form on their web site.

Yep, I get an incident number every time now - R6 0VE had better watch out as i will find them again and then go back to the police with the info!! (helps the number plate is indelibly in my head!!)
