Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. What is the minimum budget that it is worth going to a dealer with (and i mean a reputable dealer, not someone like that individual in Essex who sells on Horsemart all the time)? I'm not suggesting anything ridiculous like £100, and neither am i expecting to buy a ready-made PSG horse but if say, I have about £3-4k to spend on a horse, and wanted something to do a bit of Prelim/Novice dressage, with a view to affilliating further down the line, would most dealers be happy to talk to me or would they expect me to be spending more? Or is it really a case of phoning round and talking to people individually?

Am I making any sense at all?

I brought my current horse from a dealer for 2.5k, called up and spoke to her about what i was looking for and went from there, good luck with your search

Sounds a perfectly reasonable budget to me - there are some crazy prices out there but you really SHOULD be able to get a decent RC allrounder to do some affiliated dressage on at a later date for that money.
Good luck!

Why do you want to go to a dealer? For that sort of budget, you should be able to get something decent from a private seller (there is probably someone on HHO that has something for sale that fits the bill!).
