Hi, I need insurance to cover myself and one rider for general hacking, and cover for my horse trailer. Can anyone recommend any companies they have dealt with? Thanks

What sort of insurance are you looking for? i.e. vet fees, tack cover, loss by theft or straying, etc?

Or are you just looking for public liability cover for yourself when you ride??

I'm just a happy hacker, and was with NFU. But for my two oldies they wanted £97 for each horse, just for public liability, with no vets fees, tack, or anything else!!

So I took the plunge, took advice on here from others who've done it, and joined up as a British Horse Society Gold member, which gives you Public Liability cover (and personal injury cover) for ANY horse you ride.

And I've put the money I've saved on insurance premium with NFU, into a "odds-and-sods" fund for any emergencies. Tack for instance, is covered on my house contents insurance as I keep my horses at home.

But whatever you decide, it is deffo worth shopping around. NFU are expensive, yes, but apparently they are very good with claims. So basically I guess you gets what you pays for.....

Equicover are brilliant, you do get what you pay for and when you are ringing around have a list of questions that are applicable to your circumstances so you get the right cover for you.

The first thing that I'd do, in your shoes, is check with your regular Vet as to which companies they are prepared to deal with. Many Vet's Practices will have a blacklist.

We use the NFU for everything and have never had a problem.

Thanks all. I'd heard nfu were good and also about the bhs gold membership. I'm looking for personal and public cover for me and one rider and vets fees basically. I think bhs gold might be the way to go for my rider. I will have a look at equicover :)
